for the first time, i had the chance to experience a small town gathering. well, it was not exactly a town meeting or whatsoever, it was the monthly "market day" held at the downtown Harlingen. the downtown isn't that big as compared to vancouver's or any of the big city's, it was really a small one, i think it covered at least 8 blocks or maybe a little more. the place is filled with old-fashioned stores, mostly antique stores. and since it was market day, two blocks were closed to accomodate the kiosks that were participating for the event. it was nice, actually. so (how would you say it?) homey. :) i mean, i liked it and i can't wait to get back there again next month. well, i am really so keen with the foods that they have since mostly are mexican foods, like fajitas, tacos and whatnots. no! i have nothing against mexican foods, it's just that i have enough of them already. and they are very good, as a matter of fact. i love their breakfast tacos. most especially, machacado. so yummy!
anyway, going back to the event in the downtown Harlingen, i had the chance to brownse thru the kiosks and found a lot of antique stuffs. it was a flea market with a touch of yard sale/garage sale on it. but the highlight of that day, was i get to visit one of the city's bookstores for used books and there were books everywhere!!! i mean, the store wasn't really just into books but also into antiques but there were books in every corner of the store. in every room. and i managed to get some for myself and for tita. and i did get them for a lower price and without tax. isn't that cool? i thought so, too. the lady that was in-charge with the books (i think they're a consignment store), gave me a great deal on my purchase. so sweet, eh? i guess was glad that i just didn't buy one or two but i bought ten books! some of them even are hard-bound books. business was good. hehehe
after spending the early afternoon in jackson street, we decided to drive around for a little while. we drove down to the countryside. we saw some more small towns mostly populated with 2,000 people. and i thought, isn't that cute? it was just like in the movies, eh? you know, small town and the town folks know one another so well. it was like a big family. galeeng!
since, the "Taste of Harlingen" is nearing, we went to visit the venue for the event. it was the museum. we will be taking part to that event and we are hoping everything will turn out well-- if possible, we hope we'll win, too. :)
well, we wrapped up the afternoon with a bag of navel oranges. yeap! we bought a bag that was fresh from the store owner's orchard. the fruits weren't as sweet not sour, it was just ok. i mean, for 5 for a dollar? it was just ok.
and i wrapped up the day with the usual, studying.
oh well, i am not even sure if what i have written really made sense. but anyway, i beg your pardon but i am caught between sanity and insanity. between reality and otherwise. hehehe i guess that's the end result of being under pressure... i guess i am not really a grace under pressure, eh? *sigh!*
