ever since i moved to texas a whole lot of things had changed. for one, there's
my lifestyle. i mean, coming from a bigger city such as vancouver did a great
impact to me. there i was enjoying life's conveniences; like if you want to go
around and run your errands or simply browse through the city, you have the
public tranportations such as the city bus, the sky train, the seabus, or the cab
if you don't have your own car. but i'd rather recommend that you either just
walk or ride the bike or rollerblades--- more fun and less stressful. they may
even help you shed off those extra calories that you have been dreading to lose
all this time. :)
then should you want to go for grocery shopping, there are wide arrays of store
that you can choose from. you can go to the bigger yet cheaper (more often they
sell by the bulk, that's why) store like the Canadian Superstore or Costco; if
not you can go to the more smaller but more expensive stores, too. like the
Market Place IGA or Safeway. though there are also other smaller stores that
sell their stuff on reasonable prices. oh yeah! i miss the produce! who would
forget about the produce? i do my 'palengke' thingy most of the time in the
produce close to where we live. and there's this sense of closeness between the
owners and the consumers since most of their customers live right around their
corner--- and i so miss their samosa, too.
then the restaurants. yes! since vancouver is (or canada, for that matter) is a
melting pot of all cultures, we enjoy a wide variety of cuisines. and i miss them
so terribly. i especially miss vietnamese, thai, malaysian, singaporean,
mediterrenean, greek, russian, and a little bit of italian. darn! i was not able to
try that new african restaurant that opened in june when i visited vancouver in
june. oh well, there will always be a next time, eh?
anyway, going back to being here in texas, i began to live a much simpler life
when i decided i will stay here. since we live in the ranch, a lot of things are
'missing' here. well, we do have internet connection but it is still a dial-up, so
it sometimes (well, more often) wears a lot of my patience. that is why i seldom
go online whenever i am home. and besides, i don't have to be online anymore
because i'd rather spend my idle moment with B. then TV-wise, we don't have
cable! yes!!!! we don't as in nada! but that's ok. i know i was known as a couch
potato but that had changed. and i am pretty alright with it. not having
television, that is. as a matter of fact, that doesn't seem to bother me at all
anymore. i think i might even consider buying my (our) own ranch and live there
and enjoy our life quietly. away from the hurly-burly life in the city.....
the funny thing is, though, we're both still thinking (considering) of moving back
to ny or california, or michigan, or maybe vancouver--- we'll just have to think
things over first and we'll see. for now, life in the country is way better. and i
am liking it. what's missing right now is a dog. we are still shopping for one, a
blue heeler to be more specific.
for now, we are enjoying the simplicity of life here in san benito. every moment
of it. :)
